Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
